Hey everyone,

Something unexpected happened while we were building MageTCG...

The original Kickstarter version of the game was a 244-card set. It was always intended to be our first chapter, and it included the Sorcerer class support relics as a preview of where the game was headed.

Then we kept building.

Every week we asked ourselves the same question: "Does this make the game better?" If the answer was yes, we made the change. We didn't care if it meant redesigning cards, rebalancing archetypes, or adding entirely new strategies. We cared about shipping the best game we possibly could.

The result?

The Core Set didn't stay at 244 cards.

It grew to 466 cards. Every one of the 15 Mage classes is now represented. Every class has 12 signature Mage Relics. We've introduced brand-new cards, expanded class support, improved hybrid strategies, strengthened Draft, deepened Constructed, and brought the game much closer to the vision we've had from day one.

But while all of that was happening...

We noticed something that every longtime TCG collector will appreciate.

Our $15 Starter Decks had quietly become way more than Starter Decks.

Originally, each one contained a class's signature relic. As the game evolved, we realized these weren't just neat inclusions anymore. They had become the flagship relics that define entire classes—the kinds of cards that belong in booster packs as exciting chase cards. The kinds of cards collectors love to hunt, trade, and build around (e.g. Gaea’s Cradle, Power 9, etc).

Then we looked at the price tag.

Fifteen dollars.

That's... honestly kind of ridiculous.

Instead of quietly removing that value before launch, we decided to do something we think is much cooler.

Meet the Founder Starter Decks.

For this print run only, we're leaving them exactly as they are.

Fifteen dollars.

All 12 flagship Mage Relics across all 15 classes are locked in for this print run, along with cards that will likely be pulled in the next release as we dial those in to be “entry level” in strength and collectibility.

After this print run, these decks retire forever.

Future Starter Decks will become what Starter Decks were always meant to be: affordable products for learning the game. The flagship Mage Relics move into the 466-card Core Set booster pool, where they belong as exciting chase cards that strengthen the player experience, the collector experience, and the long-term health of the game.
